The Cotswolds - Allcourt, Lechlade

Three bedroom cottage with conservatory and garage - £385,000

AllCourt is set around a traditional village green created to mark the millennium and close to the centre of the market town of Lechlade-on-Thames. A traditional Cotswold scene has been created with 20 individually styled homes. There are two apartments, 17 cottages and Allcourt Farmhouse, a modernised 17th century cottage, typical of the yeoman farmers‘ cottages found along the limestone hills of England. The houses are built in local stone, combining the appearance and feel of a cottage, with spacious accommodation and the modern facilities of a contemporary house. Most of the cottages have sunrooms and all have a garage.

As with all Beechcroft developments Allcourt is thoughtfully designed and beautifully laid out. Imaginatively landscaped gardens house a range of plants to provide interest in every season. The old Cirencester road, now a public path flanked by tipstones, runs to the north of the meadow. Here is the likely site of the large house of ‘All Court‘ owned by Peter atte Hall in the 14th century and from which the present development takes its name.

Kent - Pilots Place, Gravesend

One bedroom ground floor flat - £99,000

Pilots Place is a retirement development of flats built in 1988 and set in a no-through road with communal facilities close to shops. The river is within easy walking distance as are other amenities in the town. Gravesend was mentioned as Gravesham in Domesday and spelt Grauefend in the sixteenth century. It is thought that the name originally derived from 'the place at the end of the Grove' and belonged to the Bishop of Bayeux in the eleventh century.

Today it is a residential and industrial town and still a major port with a pasenger ferry operating across the Thames estuary to Tilbury. It remains the customs and pilot station for the Port of London. A statue of Princess Pocahontas stands in the former churchyard at St Georges. She saved the life of John Smith in Virginia and died in England in 1617. The town has good shopping and excellent communications.
